SUMMIT COUNTY HUMANE COMMISSION MEMBER RESIGNED

READ WHY

Subject: My thoughts

Deanne,

As a past Humane Commission Member, I feel it is time to finally speak my

mind about the goings on at the SCAS.

First of all, I feel the Humane Commission was set up only to quiet down

the people that exposed the shelter the first time.  At the meetings we had

with Mr. Mc Carthy, he was never specific about what he wanted the Commission to

achieve, and never really gave us guidance.  Matter of fact, he gave us a

list of things he wanted the Commission to get, such as: towels, disinfectant,

litter boxes, etc.  Several of us in the Commission were appalled with this

request.  This facility is funded by tax dollars and  they should be

economically stable to get these items themselves.  I did  not volunteer my time to get

trivial items for this man.  I was under the  assumption that we were there to

share our knowledge and give some guidance of  new ideas to improve the Pound.

Second, Craig Stanley would tell you whatever you needed to hear.  He would

tell you that he would look into something that you asked about, or he would

change something, and it would never get done.  He was always great at saying

things could not be done.  Simple things like putting description cards on

the cages so that when potential adopters would come visit they could see the

information without bothering an employee.  He was never willing to do

anything to improve the shelter.  If you questioned him about being accountable he

would go off on one of this tirades and rip you to shreds and make you feel

like and idiot.

Third, now Mr. Mc Carthy is talking about joining forces with the  Humane

Society.  That was one of the first things that the Commission  members brought up

to Mr. Mc Carthy at our first meeting with him.  His comment was "There is no

way we are going to build another facility".  He  told us to drop the idea of

that ever happening.  So, we moved on to  reviewing the NACA report, because

we had no guidance of what this individual wanted.  Mr. Mc Carthy is not out

there for the welfare of the  animals,  so why is he in control of what

happens to them. I'm sure there is someone that works for the county that we the

taxpayers pay that would do right by the animals.

My feeling is get rid of Mr. Mc Carthy and Mr. Stanley overseeing the SCAS  and

you will begin to make changes.  As long and these two are in control

NOTHING will get done.  Mr. Stanley is just a "yes" man for Mr. Mc Carthy and will do

anything to keep your group and the press away from this subject.

When the Humane Commission was up and running, we did try our best to get

some accountability at the SCAS.  It was quite hard because Mr. Stanley  always

had a reason that something could not be done.  Like making the place look

more appealing, open more attainable hours for the public,  setting up a volunteer program,

making sure that the employees were trained to properly

administer drugs, etc.  So, I don't feel that we were a  complete waste of time.  You

still need a Commission to oversee and make sure that the people the taxpayers

are paying are doing a good job and letting these animals live & die with

dignity.

My biggest hope is that the SCAS & Humane Society do join forces, but  they

both will need to have good people to oversee what goes on constantly.

I would have enjoyed staying on the Commission, but could not see fit to do

it as long as Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Stanley, and Nancy Csonka were whom we had to

work with.

Sincerely

Nancy Roesner
