WITNESS STATEMENT

CATS HANDLED WITH METAL GRABBERS, SWUNG BY NECKS ...

Below is an incident witnessed on Saturday, Feb. 25th by a person looking for a lost cat at the Summit Co. Animal Shelter.

"On Saturday February 25, 2006 while we were waiting to see the log book at the SCAS, two guys came out and went into the cat room with these metal grabbers that were about 2 feet long.

They opened a cat cage and caught a cat in it by the neck and dragged it out.  Once it was out they wrestled with the cat for a while as it swung by its neck in order to get it into a carrier without touching it with their other hand, then they took it in the room past the cat cages.

This was one of the cats who had reached out for me and wanted her head petted, so I  know it was not feral and didn't need to be treated that way.

While we waited, they removed five cats to kill them, each time using the grabbers and wrestling with the cat to get it into a carrier.

When they went back with the fourth cat we heard a loud crash and the cat screamed.  I don’t know if they knocked something over or what happened – but a few minutes later they were back to get another cat.

While they were doing this we continued to wait and several other families came in – some with young children and they continued to drag cats away like that in front of customers."
